Ten Union County students were honored Nov. 18 with the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Good Citizens Award.
The John Foster chapter of the organization met at the Monroe Library’s Griffin Room, recognizing one senior class student for each of the ten Union County high schools. In order to be considered for the award, students had to exhibit dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Nominees were ranked based on school activities, community service, extracurricular activities, their grade transcripts, letters of recommendation and a student’s essay. Representing Union County this year were Reed Rayborn, Parkwood High; May Rogers, Central Academy of Technology; Shelby Jones, Forest Hills; Jenna Sorgen, Union County Early College; Jasmine Price, Monroe High; Patric King, Piedmont High; Devon Adams, Sun Valley; Catherine Spence, Porter Ridge; Claire McCray, Weddington and Mary Kate Sanborn, Marvin Ridge.
The students will now compete with other winners to represent the region at the state level.
