The Union County Christmas Bureau needs sponsors for families and children and donations of toys, money, food and coats. The Union County Christmas Bureau opened on Oct. 25, and since that time, almost 2, 000 families have applied for assistance.
“We need businesses, churches, families, groups and individuals that are willing to provide hope to these families seeking help,” Union County Social Services Volunteer Services Coordinator Gloria Haney said. Donations are down this year.
Groups or individuals may sponsor families, gift trees or fill stockings for children. Monetary donations also may be made in person or mailed to the Christmas Bureau at 2107 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110. All donations are tax deductible.
A coat distribution for families takes place on Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Christmas Bureau. Coats can be dropped off at the Christmas Bureau or at any Mills Cleaners in Union County. Mills Cleaners will clean the coats for free and take them to the Christmas Bureau.
“We are in need of a lot of coats in all sizes,” Haney said. “We also need food donations and new and gently used toys. Our food donations are way down this year.” The deadline to donate food and toys is Dec. 15.
