Developers throughout Weddington will have at least three years to finish their projects. On Monday, Nov. 8, council members voted to stick with the terms of N.C. House Bill 683, which extends development permits in all municipalities through December 2012. Language in the bill dictated that each town could opt out of the delay.
“We’ve worked hard to get permits to do these projects, ” local developer Ken Dowd said. “This resolution could (have) stopped us in 2011. It’s been so hard to obtain these permits, as our last (one) took 26 months to get approved.”
“I can’t see a reason why we would not let the state statute carry, ” Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Barry said.
