I am shocked that, after everything everyone did toward working on a new Waxhaw library, Commissioner Kirkpatrick would vote against it.
Commissioner Haug proposed a recommendation at the last meeting for a library recommendation to go to the county. The only change was he asked to move the half-mile radius, which is the right and fair thing to do, so that all sites are fairly looked into.
Commissioner Diller seconded the motion, yet Kirkpatrick would not pass the motion because it was made very clear that night she only wants a library if it is on the site she chooses, not what is best for Waxhaw or what is recommended by the Library Board of Trustees.
By the way Union County, approximately $10,000 of taxpayer money was spent for engineers to do site studies for the Library Board of Trustees – approved by your local Union County Board of Commissioners majority, Lanny Openshaw, Tracy Kuehler and Kim Rogers.
If you go and request meeting minutes (like I did), you will clearly see where Kirkpatrick touts her friendship with Lanny Openshaw and Tracy Kuehler and how she is proud of it. So she got her friends to spend $10,000 of our taxpayer money to do a library site study that she completely disregarded.
Funny thing, only a week prior at another Waxhaw commissioner’s meeting, County Commissioner Lanny Openshaw spoke for 20 minutes, telling Waxhaw they have to choose the site Kirkpatrick wants. He also completely disregarded what the library board of trustees and our $10,000 showed was good for a library site.
Are you all hearing this? County commissioners are spending our money for their friends to get what they want, and then they are completely disregarding what the paid people are telling them to do. They just threw our money away. Literally threw it away.
This is how our county has been run for the last several years. We need to get rid of these people that do not care about the taxpayers at all.
