The cost of getting leaves collected in Stallings just got cut by half.
At their Monday, Oct. 25 meeting, town council members accepted a bid from waste collection company God Bless the USA to handle leaf duties from Nov. 1 to Jan. 31. USA bid to collect leaves for only $1.50 per household.
Earlier in the month, the town negotiated with Action Garbage, which agreed to lower its price from $3.50 to $3 per month per household.
In recent months, Action Garbage officials had considered allowing a takeover by Waste Connections. As a result, the town began negotiating a new contract with Waste Connections. When the takeover fell through, Action Garbage announced an increase in yard-waste fees and the general garbage services. Action has since agreed to maintain its fee for garbage collection, and God Bless the USA offered leaf service at $1.50 per month.
To avoid traveling in smaller subdivisions unless necessary, company officials asked that residents in those neighborhoods to notify the company at its website, www.gbusainc.com, before 5 p.m. on Tuesday for a Wednesday leaf pickup. Smaller subdivisions are classified as those with 45 or fewer homes, including Camelia Park, Mill Stone Estates, Eaglecrest, Fairforest, Kingsberry and Gold Dust Ridge, as well as others.
