The American Red Cross recently honored Union County resident Martha Allen with its Presidential Award for excellence. The national organization gives the award to volunteers or staff members with outstanding achievements in increasing revenue, cutting costs or fulfilling the agency’s mission.
“We are incredibly honored that Martha is one of five people chosen across the nation for this award,” Union County Red Cross Chapter executive Kathy Bragg said in a new release.
The Weddington resident has been a volunteer with the Red Cross for seven years, serving as a board member from 2003 to 2006 and founding the Red Cross Women of Hope, a local fundraising group. Currently, she serves as the co-chair for the Tiffany Circle Society of Women Leaders. Members of that group donate $10,000 or more each year to the Red Cross.
“Joining the Tiffany Circle is the gift that gives and gives and gives,” Allen said in a press release. “Give until it feels good. No, give until it feels great.”
Allen traveled to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Oct. 27, to receive the award.
