County commissioners approved a bid Monday, Oct. 4 for construction work at Parkwood and Sun Valley middle schools. As part of their bid for an Energy Efficiency Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, the county included a proposal to upgrade interior lighting at the two schools. The estimated cost was projected at $164,772 but the low bid by Hinson Electric came in at $138,837, meaning that the money saved from light bill costs will make back the funds within 6.7 years. The lights at both schools will switch from antique T12 fixtures to the modern, energy conserving T8. Also occupancy sensors will be added, so that the lights will automatically turn off if a room is unoccupied.
