Commissioners rejected a proposal Monday, Oct. 4 to increase the pay of county employees. The discussion was put on the table by Kim Rogers, who said she wasn’t endorsing the proposal, but felt it was worth talking about as employees haven’t had a raise in over three years.
“I just think it’s the wrong time,” Commissioner Parker Mills said. “We don’t have the money.” His comments were echoed by fellow commissioner Allan Baucom, who said the economic situation won’t allow a pay raise.
“I would love for the (economic situation) to be different, but the reality is its not different and I don’t think this board can change that.”
