One month after requesting more information on the project, county commissioners voted to allocate $16,292 from the Capital Projects Fund for repair and replacement work at Jesse Helms Park. In September, park officials came to commissioners, requesting extra funds to build the bridge going across the entrance of the park. The original architecture plans couldn’t be used, Interim County Manager Wes Baker said, adding that they weren’t feasible. The extra funding will upgrade the size of the rock at the footing of the bridge, realign the walkway portion and also provide funds for an engineering service to test the bridge’s retaining walls.
