INDIAN TRAIL – Sun Valley High School’s Class of 1993 has gone on to do great things. They have become architects, bookkeepers, chiropractors, senior business analysts and even life coaches.
Some have gotten married and had children, while others have lost loved ones.
Attempts have been made to plan gatherings in the past, but a dedicated group of organizers is committed to pulling off a successful 25-year class reunion this summer.
“The thought of seeing everyone excites me because I want that attendance, but the cliques and all that are all in the past,” said Lise Pizzarelli, one of the organizers. “We want everyone to come together and have fun. We want you to make new memories.”
She said good friend Debbie Campbell recruited her and others to help organize a high-quality, low-cost event with barbecue, corn hole, photo stall and s’more bar. Tickets for the July 14 event cost $35, but will increase as it draws near.
There’s a lot that goes into planning a class reunion outside of picking a venue and menu.
Organizers have gone through yearbooks to identify people not just from their senior year, but those from the class that maybe left during freshmen year for whatever reason. Now they must track them down from all over the world.
Once contacted, organizers hope to keep them engaged.
They’ve tried to build buzz locally by painting the big rock in front of the school. They’ve also posted photos on Facebook of familiar scenes, like hallways full of lockers.
While social media has helped to spread the word about the event and reconnect with classmates, Pizzarelli says nothing beats the experience of seeing old friends in person.
When Pizzarelli found out her father was sick a few years ago, she immediately called 10 people – most of whom were from Sun Valley High School. They helped her through that very difficult time in her life.
“My relatives could not believe how great my friends were,” she said. “I met them at Sun Valley.”
