Bishop named chief academic officer at college
MONROE – Carl Bishop, who served as the interim vice president for academic affairs at South Piedmont Community College since the retirement of Joyce Long last June, has earned the role permanently.
“During his time as the interim vice president, Carl has led the division exceptionally well and displayed the skill, integrity and sagacity that I envisioned for the next vice president for academic affairs/chief academic officer,” SPCC President Maria Pharr said.
Bishop came to SPCC in 2010 as a communication instructor and later served in leadership roles.
State approves healthcare pathway
RALEIGH – The NCWorks Commission certified a healthcare pathway at its Nov. 15 meeting for a nine-county region that includes Mecklenburg and Union counties.
Known as NCWorks Certified Career Pathways, the plans help job seekers enter particular industries. Employers collaborate with the state’s workforce and education professionals to design them.
Career pathways are designed not only for students, but also for people who have lost jobs or been out of the workforce through no fault of their own. They can access a pathway through public schools, community colleges and universities.
