WAXHAW – Taylor Neal of Cuthbertson High School is the very first winner of the Best Actress Blumey Award.
Neal brought home the award for her performance as Belle in the school’s production of “Beauty and the Beast.” The production also won the award for Best Costumes.
Now, Neal goes on to perform at the National High School Musical Theater Awards in June. Her Blumey award comes with a one-week, all-expense-paid trip to New York City.
The first annual Blumenthal Performing Arts High School Musical Theater Awards was patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards. Twenty schools participated in the competition. Each musical was viewed and evaluated by a panel of three judges from the Charlotte-theater community. The judges awarded points according to detailed guidelines, nominating six finalists each for 13 different categories of awards: from Best Actor and Best Actress, to Best Lighting Execution and the top spot of Wells Fargo Best Musical Award. Wells Fargo sponsored the competition.
