MONROE – Taste of Union started as an idea posed by one of its founders: Restaurants bring in food. We charge a price. Make a little money.
A couple board members talked about it and at first, decided the undertaking was too great, nearly bagging the event from the start. Not enough time. Not enough interest.
Everything changed, though, as calls from interested restaurants started pouring in. The committee thought, “Yes, we can do this.” Taste of Union was born.
This year’s 10th anniversary of Taste of Union will include a silent auction, raffle, music by Borderlyne and lots of food.
Vendors who have committed so far include Bisonte Pizza Co., Bruster’s Ice Cream, Carolina Cake Artistry, Dream Dinners of Waxhaw, Java Jeff Coffee & Tea Co., Jefferson Street Deli, Kate Clyde’ Catered Creations, Mario’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant, Papa Murphy’s Pizza and Sweet Frog.
The event takes place 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 29 at First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Windsor St., Monroe. Tickets cost $30. Buy one from Aug. 10 to Sept. 10, and get the second one for $20.
Proceeds benefit Operation Reach Out, which works to alleviate hunger.
