MONROE – The Union County Extension Master Gardeners and Union County Heritage Festival Committee announced details for the 2018 Heritage Festival Art Contest.
The contest is open to Union County Public Schools middle school art students, Union Academy and homeschoolers. Each school and homeschool cooperative may submit two entries for judging by Sept. 14.
Two entries from each school and cooperative will be displayed at the Union County Heritage Festival on Sept. 22 at the Union County Agricultural Center. Festival attendees will be encouraged to vote for their favorite.
Winners will receive gift cards, $100 for the first place winner, $50 for second place, $25 for third place and $25 for the crowd favorite. The award presentation takes place at 2 p.m. at the festival.
The artwork needs at least 30 percent recycled content, be no greater than 2 by 2 by 2 feet, and be the original work of the student. Entries must include an index card with a description of the art, how it represents the theme (Celebrate Union County Heritage, Go Native!), what makes it earth friendly, and a list of the recycled materials used.
