ATLANTA – Students from Porter Ridge Middle School earned recognition Jan. 12 to 14 at the 2018 Junior Theater Festival Atlanta.
The 36 students, ages 11-14, presented selections from “Shrek the Musical JR.” for artistic director Michael Bobbit and educator Julia Magnasco.
“Porter Ridge Middle School had absolutely incredible ensemble work,” Magnasco said. “They showed us outstanding choreography, student choreographers Ashline Arnaud and Olivia Howell did an excellent job telling the story through dance. The actors portrayed the characters thoughtfully to tell a clear story.”
Porter Ridge won a Freddie G award for Excellence in Acting.
Also, Zoë Logan was one of 240 students who made it to the call-back for future Broadway Junior shoots for “how-to” choreography videos for soon-to-be released Broadway Junior musicals.
Logan and Will Van Cleave were named to the Junior Theater Festival All-Stars, made up of outstanding performers attending the festival. The All-Stars performed a song during the closing ceremony.
The Junior Theater Group, in partnership with iTheatrics, produces the festival, which united more than 6,000 students and educators from 130 educational musical theater groups.
