WAXHAW – Crowds braved the chilly weather Dec. 10 to view high school marching bands, horses, walking entries from community groups and floats provided by churches and businesses at the Waxhaw Christmas Parade.
With nearly 100 official parade entries and more than 1,000 participants, Waxhaw delivered a holiday event as fun and robust as its thriving downtown. Winners of the parade were as follows: South Charlotte Dog Rescue (first place), Parkwood FFA (second place) and Western Union School Jr. Beta Club (third place).
This year’s parade theme was the “Nutcracker: The Land of Sweets.”
Many shops offered hot chocolate and coffee, as well as treats for parade viewers to enjoy. Children received a bonanza of candy canes and sweets that rivaled Halloween from local businesses (no doubt some of them were dentists).
The parade ended with a visit from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus riding in a horse-drawn carriage. Santa will continue his exploration of Waxhaw double checking his list of naughty and nice children as he travels through the Waxhaw neighborhoods the week of Dec. 12 to 15.
